Plymouth Albion’s flying winger Liam Gibson was guest of honour at the 2008 Plymouth Argaum Junior Section Presentation Evening recently. The 22 year-old, who appeared regularly on the International Sevens circuit for England before an injury earlier during the season, was on hand to present awards to the Under 13 and Under 15 squads. The event was very well attended and in a departure from recent years was held at Plymouth Albion’s Brickfields ground. As is tradition in what is now the fourth such ceremony each player received a participation trophy whilst there were also individual team awards up for grabs. Argaum Under 13sIn the Under 13s these were awarded to Player’s Player (Carl Turner), Most Improved (Stephen Brown), Coaches Award (Stuart Sargeant) and Captains Trophy (Liam Ferguson) whilst the Under 15s awards went to Player’s Player (Joe Gosling), Coaches Award (Dan Cunningham), Most Improved (Sam Wright) and Parent’s Trophy (Dan Smith). Argaum Under 15sIn addition Dan James received a trophy for representing Devon U16s this season, the first Argaum player to represent the county for many a season.

Whilst the emphasis of the evening was on the children awards were also made to several of the adults who had helped out in coaching, first aid and administration during the season. After the awards had been made all eyes were on the top table which was literally groaning with the food generously supplied by the parents, it was then time for the disco and the highlight of the evening, a full rendition of ‘Allouette’ from Mike Glanfield. Many thanks must go to Plymouth Albion, in particular Graham Dawe for making Liam Gibson available the night before an important County Match against Gloucester and to Abbie Orton (and friend) who ran the bar.
