With the season about to close it’s time to take stock of 2007-08, our 5th season as a junior section.

Pitch-Side Facilities - The new posts (sponsored by GMD) were long overdue and have vastly improved the look of the pitches which have held up very well this season. The railway container has given us much more space for pitch-side storage and will be powered up over the summer to provide pitch-side refreshments next season!

Teams - The Under 16s never got started this season and unfortunately the Under 17s faded due to a variety of reasons (it’s a very difficult age to start a rugby team). The Under 15s had an influx of a lot of new players and have really started to gel in the second half of the season. The decision to concentrate on the Under 13s this season has been vindicated with squad numbers rising from 6/7 to over 25 in 1 season. We are looking to start another team (this year’s U12) next season.

Volunteers - The season wouldn’t have happened if it wasn’t for the parents who have helped with the catering, refreshments, pitch set-up, first aid, transport, fund-raising, refereeing & coaching. Thank you to everyone who has helped this season.

Fund-Raising - The bag-packing events were a great success this season and have enabled both the Under 13s/15s to be kitted out with weather-proof tops. In addition the Under 15s have raised a significant amount for their tour (a first for the juniors) to Bournemouth which takes place next week, good luck with that! (The proposal is for U13s & U15s to visit Cork next season).

The Rugby - Whilst we haven’t always had success on the pitch the way the players have conducted themselves has been exemplary, and we have received several compliments from referees and opposition officials/parents. Results have been improving with the Under 15s gaining notable wins over the likes of Camborne and Newquay, whilst the U13s fully deserved their recent success over Totnes. We have received tourists from Moseley, Bradford-on-Avon & Dursley and have made first visits to Newquay, Camborne, Sidmouth & Dursley.

All-in-all a very enjoyable season, here’s to 2008-09!
